Board Meeting Minutes – April 11, 2024

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 5:58 PM
Open Comment/ Question:
Approval of Previous Minutes: Motion made by Emily Huntley to approve the meeting minutes from March 14. Seconded by Allison Barkley. Approved.

Workshops and Communications

Kathy attended a one day ECE (early childhood education) class.

Building and Grounds

The board discussed what needs to be done with regards to deadheading plants outside, trimming shrubs, etc. Deborah will talk to Jaiden and several other names were mentioned for consulting on how to best maintain the plant life outside.

Director’s Report :(Deborah Chase-Lauther)

Previously, the library had been asked by the representatives of Fantasy Faire to have a donation jar for Renewal House set up at the library for the July 27th event at the Madrid Municipal Park. However, Fantasy Faire has been cancelled.

The updating of the locks on the Community Room will change once construction is completed. (Ongoing).

Deborah is researching some protective plexiglass options for specific parts of the kitchen area.

Financial Report (Emily Huntley): Motion to accept the bills as read by Emily Huntley made by Allison Barkley, seconded by Jenn Coakley. Approved.

Amy Moulton reported to Emily that she made a transfer of $10,000 prior to the board meeting; she noticed the checking account was getting low. Amy recommended moving all of the Capital Fund Savings Account funds to the Capital Fund Checking account because the interest on the checking account is 5%. Emily will clarify with Amy about transferring the remaining balance.


Reports:

  1. Grants:
    a. Grant 2 – Kitchen & Community Room Flooring
    i. Awaiting date for installation of lighting, cameras and monitor.
    b. Front Entry Stairs Grant – (Ongoing) Requesting quotes from Northern Tier, Robla’s, and Gardner’s Flooring.

Community Events

• Apr 8, 2-4pm – Come celebrate the eclipse with us! Glasses available!
• Apr 10, 6-7pm – Local author Bryan Thompson will speak about his work – “African Americans in St. Lawrence County”.
• Apr 18, 7pm – Book Club, “The Guncle” by Steven Rowley. All Welcome!
• Every Wednesday at 2:15pm – FRENCH CLUB – . Everyone Welcome!
• Every Wednesday at 3:30pm – Story Time and Craft with Mrs. Paige.

Old Business

The lift continues to work!

Summer Reading Program – planning is underway – “Adventures in Reading”.

New Business

4th of July parade tied into the Summer Reading Program – costumes discussed.
