The Hepburn Library of Madrid Board of Trustees and Staff take high interest in protecting our staff and patrons- in particular the high-risk populations we serve and the high-risk populations who work and volunteer for us.

Our interest is to continue serving your library needs while maintaining the safety and health of our staff and public. We are developing staffing and service models should we need to reduce services at any of our locations and removing unnecessary items in children’s areas such as toys, puzzles and other playthings that are difficult to clean and sanitize.

We also continue to follow best hygiene practices for workplaces – including regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment in our buildings, making hand sanitizer available to staff and patrons, and encouraging frequent hand-washing.

We encourage any concerned patrons, especially those in high-risk populations, to stay home if they are feeling ill or are simply concerned about potential exposure.

We are asking that:

  • All returns must be done via the book drop (counter book drop or outside return slot). All material received in the book drop should be handled by staff wearing gloves, and items will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes.
  • When possible, library cards will be scanned in the patron’s hands.

We will continue to communicate any further impacts to the Library as a result of coronavirus. In the meantime, as a reminder, the Library has many digital services available to you for free, such as e-books and e-audiobooks; and music services; and digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines. A full list of services can be found by clicking here.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this developing situation.
